2010 Clan Donald AGM
Myrtle Beach, SC
September 22-26, 2010
Clan Donald will descend on the dunes of the beach at Myrtle Beach SC in September for what promises to be a memorable and unique Annual General Meeting. Only the weekend before, Clan Donald will be the Honored Clan at the 39th annual Charleston, SC Scottish Games where Sir Ian Macdonald of Sleat will be the Honored Guest at both the Charleston Games and the Clan Donald AGM. Also in attendance will be David F. Macdonald of CastleCamus, Executive Director of the Clan Donald Lands Trust/Armadale and his wife Debra. First time attendee, Norman Gillies, Director of Development for the Clan Donald Lands/Armadale will give a workshop on a very exciting project of the Lands Trust and the surrounding area.
On Wednesday, 22 September, a kilted/tartan skirt golf tournament will be held at Myrtle Woods Golf Course. Ladies are invited to compete as long as they are in a tartan skirt or tartan slacks. Men will be required to wear kilts or tartan trews.
Thursday, 23 September will have us loading buses to travel to Brookgreen Gardens (http://www.brookgreen.org) for a magnificent tour of the grounds and world renowned sculpture. Lunch will be included in the price of the outing.
Friday evening will have us load up again for dinner and show at Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament (www.medievaltimes.com). Clan Donald will be piped in with all our banners and glory. We will cheer our champion knight to victory.
Everyone is welcomed to visit The Bowery where the band Alabama started. Not much has changed over the years where the beer is still cold and roasted peanuts are hot. (Yes Virginia, weapons still have to be checked at the door). Our National Genealogist, Jim McDonald is very familiar with The Bowery and other locations when he traveled this area years ago planting trees, so he claims.
Our hotel is the Crown Reef Resort and Convention Center (http://www.crownreef.com) at the south end of Myrtle Beach. Each of the 514 guestrooms, efficiencies and suites are an oceanfront room with private balcony. There is complimentary covered parking, complimentary airport shuttle, and complimentary wireless high speed internet. The airport is only 6 minutes from the hotel. There are two restaurants, 20 pools/spas, a 575 foot Lazy River and lounge and gift shop. The rates for the rooms during the AGM will be $79 to $109 depending on the type room reserved. These rates will apply two days before and two days after the AGM if anyone wants to extend their stay.
More information and registration forms will be available on the Clan Donald website and the next By Sea By Land. So pull out your calendar and mark these dates. This will be an AGM you do not want to miss.
